Real estate mogul offers wife sizeable divorce settlement

Some marriages may last for a brief moment or for decades, but in the end, it may take a huge toll on one's emotions and finances when it dissolves. However, for many, a divorce and a chance for a fresh start may be worth any price. There are likely many California residents who are more than willing to compromise in order to put an unhealthy relationship behind them.

One real estate mogul, Harry Macklowe, has purportedly offered his wife half of his $2 billion fortune in order to get his divorce over and finalized. The 79-year-old man and his wife were married for 58 years.  The soon-to-be former Mrs. Macklowe has reportedly not yet accepted the man's offer to split their assets equally.

Mrs. Macklowe, who is 79, first filed the divorce papers last summer when her husband purportedly provided his girlfriend with an apartment near the home where the couple resided. Mr. Macklowe was apparently in a jovial mood after a divorce hearing as he entertained reporters with humorous anecdotes. He has claimed that he is already engaged to be married as soon as he is legally permitted to do so.

The real estate developer has an established reputation in New York for well-known properties on Park Avenue. A civil court judge has requested that the wife provide the court with a list of properties and holdings in order to determine the value of the husband's assets. California has it own laws governing how property is to be divided when a couple seeks a divorce. For matters that cannot be easily resolved, there are family law attorneys who can provide guidance and possible solutions for one's particular needs and circumstances.
