Fire official faces allegations of domestic violence

Those who work in the public sector often face intense situations that call for calm reasoning in an effort to diffuse the volatile emotions involved. When these circumstances involve allegations of domestic violence, the fallout on both a victim's and an alleged perpetrator's life can have lasting consequences. Recently, one California official has had to face his own trial by fire.

The fire marshal of Napa was recently arrested over suspicions of committing domestic assault. Police stated that they responded to the man's home after an argument reportedly became physical. The man was purportedly involved in a verbal disagreement with another party in his home. He then allegedly threw an undisclosed object at the other party which hit her in the head. It is unclear whether the victim contacted authorities; however, police reported that the victim was also struck several weeks earlier, which reportedly resulted in a discernible injury.

Neither incident resulted in the unidentified victim requiring medical treatment. However, the man was arrested on allegations of committing a felony domestic assault and a misdemeanor battery. Napa officials responded to this recent incident by placing the fire marshal on an administrative leave while the investigation into the allegations is ongoing.

According to court records, this official was placed under arrest over similar allegations five years ago which did not result in charges or any disciplinary actions taken by county officials. The man has denied any wrongdoing and offered no other comment. It is unknown if the victim will consent to press charges regarding this most recent alleged incident of domestic violence. While many California families face these types of unsettling situations, neither victims nor the possibly wrongly accused have to face them alone. There are experienced and compassionate professionals who can provide assistance to resolve these problems while working to ensure the safety of those involved.
