Rudy Guiliani and third wife seeking divorce after 15 years

Those who rise to prominence in the public sector often live under the spotlight of public scrutiny. While a divorce filing in the life of an ordinary California resident will not typically make news, these decisions become news when it involves well-known politicians or celebrities. Recently, the media announced that the third wife of former mayor, Rudy Guiliani, has filed for a divorce after 15 years.

Judith Giuliani filed a contested divorce earlier this month. The former mayor confirmed the news by announcing that the couple had separated. He requested that the media respect the privacy of the couple and their children while they go through the process. He further refrained from placing blame and said that the fault lies with both parties.

Guiliani faced criticism in 2000 for announcing his divorce from his second wife after admitting to an affair involving the woman who he would later marry. The current Mrs.Giuliani contested filing indicates that disputes exist regarding the couple's joint marital property, which include at least two properties. There have been no further details regarding their divorce proceedings.

Giuliani has remained an active figure in the political arena. He withdrew his name for consideration as Secretary of State shortly before another individual, Rex Tillerson, was nominated. He currently heads a task force that deals with cybersecurity. Unlike New York, where the Giuliani divorce is pending, California is a community property state with different laws governing the distribution of marital property. Residents who are concerned about any aspects relating to property division or other divorce issues can turn to an experienced family law attorney to guide them through the process while working to reach the settlement that will best meet their individual needs.
