Detective placed on suspension after domestic violence allegation

Those in law enforcement are rightly held to a higher standard in both their professional and personal lives. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that they will conduct themselves in a manner above reproach, and they have often been named in allegations that include domestic violence. Sadly, no California resident is safe from the possibility of becoming a victim of this often hidden crime.

Recently, one city placed a veteran detective on suspension after he was ordered to surrender his firearms in the wake of accusations of multiple incidents concerning child and domestic abuse. According to a woman who had been in a relationship with the man and is the mother of four children, the man had engaged in threats against her and her children. She sought shelter at a county safe house after being granted a protective order against the man.

According to the report, the detective has been the subject of several civil suits that have included allegations of misconduct. Two of the suits were settled, and in two others, he was cleared of wrongdoing. In 2012, the woman sought a protective order after she claimed that the man threatened her with a firearm. However, she did not appear for a court hearing in that case. The most recent allegations included accusations that the man beat his children with a wooden utensil back in 2017 and that he neglected to seek medical attention for his son after school personnel contacted him with concerns over his son's mental and physical well-being.

Officials contacted the woman and informed her that the detective was placed on suspension and that he was the subject of an Internal Affairs investigation in light of the domestic violence accusations. Any time a California resident fears for his or her safety due to the actions of a current or former partner, he or she is entitled to seek legal remedies. An experienced and compassionate attorney can provide information and assistance in securing one's safety.
